Women are Warriors

My visit with the surgeon is just 2 days away and I guess it still feels funny knowing that I have breast cancer and I really don’t feel any different. When John tells people they tell me that they are so sorry but I reply why I’m looking forward to a front end alignment. It’s not every day that you get new boobies! They usually reply “that is a good attitude”. The fact is possibly the fact hasn’t really connected just yet or maybe I am taking this all in stride sort of like I take everything in life. You can’t change it once it is but you can roll with the punches and learn how to do better next time.

In the meantime, not that I don’t have my hands full already, we rescued a little Maltese yesterday from the side of the road. We met another Breast Cancer survivor which proves to me beyond a doubt that women are warriors.

Lift and Separate

The first thing they told me after the biopsy was to wear a good fitting bra. I have to admit I once wore a 42 J bra and it was a chore to find one. I would have to special order or go to a specialty store where the bras ran anywhere from $60 to $100 each. I worked on it and lost quite a bit of weight and got the girls down to a 40G but it is still hard to find a good bra that doesn’t cost over $60.
I once asked one of the ladies that helped fit me for my bras what do you exactly look for in a good bra. She advised me that one that not only holds up the girls without spilling over but one that actually lifts and separates. HA! I may have lifted my girl’s spirit but I have yet to separate them. Once they are lifted they sort of meld together.
I am honestly hoping for a pretty good reduction to not only remove any alien residue but to also relieve my aching back and hopefully lift and separate what is left. Some women wish they had large full breast but I am here to say no you don’t. First it is very difficult to find really pretty tops to fit over the big ones. I am lucky that I have a big frame and have been able to handle the extra weight.
My wish is to be able to walk into any store and buy a pretty bra with matching panties. You may think that is a funny wish but since I was a teenager I have not been able to do that. It would nice to be able to talk to a man and have him looking at my face and not focusing on the girls. I get tired of double takes. The only thing I will miss is the fact that I had built in flotation devices and I could float with the best of them. I may have to actually swim now.
I am just anxious to begin my treatment so I can have a better idea on what to expect. I want to send out words of encouragement to all the women that are at the same stage I am in. This is hard being told you have cancer but waiting to see the oncologist and breast surgeon to learn how they will tackle the problem. Ladies hold up your head and stand strong. Do not let this define who you are. You are a woman and this is just one stepping stone in your life. Stay positive and kick some cancer butt!!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Show Your Pink

With this being Breast Cancer Awareness Month everywhere you look there will be Pink merchandise displayed saying breast cancer awareness or fight breast cancer. The questions I ask is, how much of this sale go to breast cancer research. Did you know when you buy the pink NFL products less than 10% goes to research? That is a fact that out of every $100 sold only $3.54 goes to fund research.
Yes the products are pink and they do bring awareness to the problem of breast cancer but the products are filling the wrong pockets. Also there are numerous Breast Cancer Organizations out there so if they do not designates which organization the donation goes to you will not even know if the money is used for research, advertising or promotions. If you want to buy items to help the causes think about going to a breast cancer organization and shopping. Try the Susan G Koman organization or the Breast Cancer Site where money raised goes to fund mammograms for those that cannot afford them. Put your hard earned money to good use. Check to make sure the site that you visit is an actual charity that helps to fund the cause.
The idea of the Breast Cancer month is to bring awareness of the problem of Breast Cancer in men, women and even that adorable fur baby at your side. Research is needed to help find a cure.  The odds of survival are higher today than they were 10 – 20 years ago but we still have a long way to go.
With the battle I am facing I can safely say my Christmas tree will probably be covered in pink this year as I prove that strength is the color pink. I have pink boxing gloves and at every chance I get I will punch cancer in the gut. Kicking, scratching and sucker punches are legal and remember I fight like a girl!
